India picked up one of the most dramatic wins in the history of the ICC World T20 2016, outlasting Bangladesh by just 1 run in a Group stage game which was a rematch of the Asia Cup final 2016. While the Asia Cup final was a fairly one-sided contest with the blues destroying the Bengali tigers by a staggering 8 wickets, Wednesday’s Group 2 World T20 fixture was anything but one-sided.
Usually when teams throw games away from positions that guarantee a win, match-fixing allegations are bound to storm their way. I guessw that is what happened with Bangladesh yesterday. They needed 11 runs in the last over, with Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah on strike, and what a cracker the game turned out to be from there.
Hardik Pandya got hit for 2 fours and the score came down to just 2 needed from 3 deliveries. Bangladesh were almost there. Mushfiqur lofted a ball straight to the leg side fielder and shockingly Mahmudullah did the same thing the very next ball. 2 needed off 1 ball, and the Bangalis could not get it. MS Dhoni’s stunning effort gave his team a run-out wicket on the final ball of the spell and kept them alive in the tournament.
