What an absolute beauty of a World T20 2016 Group stage fixture we have had today. Seriously, nobody from the fans to the pundits, saw this coming. MS Dhoni’s India have emerged victorious in what will go down as one of the most closely fought thrilling games in the history of the ICC World T20. Both teams headed into the game with a do-or-die situation on the cards. Bangladesh could not afford another slip considering they had lost both their opening games to Pakistan and Australia. So the stakes were mega high and it was always going to be one heck of a T20 encounter between the Asia Cup Finalists.
The Bengalis won the first part of the game, bowling brilliantly to restrict a very long and depthful Indian batting lineup to 141. The best thing about the Bengalis first innings was the sheer improvement in their field. Soumya Sarkar took what will go down as one of the catches of the tournament. All Bengali bowlers bowled fairly well and gave their batsman every chance to dethrone the hosts on their homesoil.
The Indian bowling has done well throughout the tournament, so the Bengalis had to be on their toes despite a moderate total. Tamim Iqbal got the tigers off to a brilliant start. Shabbir and Shakib both batted brilliantly and Bangladesh were cruising at one stage.
